What is Canadian Ed Chat?

Twitter Chat

Twitter has provided a new medium for connecting with others. As educators, we are able to share ideas, collaborate and discuss learning with a wider-than-ever audience. Canadian Ed Chat uses the hashtag #cdnedchat to connect educators across the country.

Every Monday evening at 8 pm Eastern time, educators from around the world meet on Twitter to share thoughts and ideas. There is a preselected topic and questions, and answers spark conversation.

You can use tools such as TweetDeck or HootSuite to follow a specific hashtag in Twitter. We recommend these apps because they are free, work on many different platforms, and make it easy to see entire conversations, follow interactions, and participate in the chat.

Canadian Ed Chat is open to all participants. We are a group of educators who focus on topics that are related to education in Canada, but we welcome participants from all over the world. If you’re interested, you are always welcome to participate live, read the tweets after the chat has taken place, or just “lurk” and see what’s going on. It’s easy to jump into a conversation, and we want to hear your thoughts!

Why Twitter

Twitter is a public forum for discussion. Due to the nature of the platform, ideas need to be concise, clear, and encourage a response. It is easy to find information, since conversations are stored in a user’s tweets. The public nature of the interaction means that we can share thoughts, ideas and resources with anyone and everyone who is interested. Links to further information are also easily included when 140 characters just won’t cut it.
